Musculoskeletal Laser

A painless and effective treatment for your foot and ankle pain

Our Laser can alleviate your pain without injections, procedures or medications

Have you been plagued with pain in your foot or ankle? Are you worried that the only treatments available are painful cortisone injections or surgery?  Now you don’t have to worry! Musculoskeletal Laser is the latest FDA approved treatment for foot and ankle pain that uses non-invasive laser therapy to reduce pain and inflammation. Just a few short painless treatments and you will be back to your active lifestyle.

Foot and ankle pain plagues most of us at one point or another throughout our lives. Traditional treatments include rest, ice, pain medication, immobilization, cortisone injections and surgery. For many suffering with pain, traditional conservative treatment may be insufficient to control the pain, yet cortisone injections or surgery can be too invasive or involve long recovery periods.  Musculoskeletal or High Intensity Laser Therapy is a safe and effective treatment that is recognized by the FDA and indicated for many conditions and injuries. In the foot and ankle, it can be helpful for sprains, swelling, gout attacks, arthritic pain, tendinitis, and numerous other painful conditions. Laser treatment has an advantage over medications and injections, because rather than simply masking the symptoms, there is evidence suggesting laser therapy’s ability to reduce inflammation, increase blood flow, stimulate tissue growth, and better assist the body in improving its own healing process.

Musculoskeletal laser is ideal for treating conditions such as:

Musculoskeletal lasers have three basic effects on the tissues:

  1. Reduce inflammation, thereby alleviating pain
  2. Improve local circulation to help facilitate healing
  3. Laser energy is absorbed by the individual cells of the tissues, speeding up the metabolic process, resulting in faster healing times

Further Information

Musculoskeletal or High Intensity Laser Therapy works through a process called photobiomodulation. This describes the process when photons of laser light penetrate the skin and underlying tissue. The photons are absorbed by the cells and converted into energy. This energy can help the cells become normal and healthy. Through this process, a chain of cellular events is triggered, including stimulation of ATP, stimulation of the respiratory chain, increased DNA and RNA synthesis, enhanced collagen synthesis, and increased levels of beta-endorphins and serotonin.

One major benefit of this treatment is the absence of dangerous side effects or chance of adverse reactions. Although working through a light based process, it is non-thermal, so does not cause excessive heat. It is also non-ionizing, so it avoids any harmful radiation. This treatment also offers the benefit of long term relief, as the laser treatment works in a way to help permanently treat the problem and facilitate your body’s own natural healing response. Expected treatment outcomes include decreased inflammation, decreased pain, decreased muscle tightness and soreness, increased range of motion, and faster healing and recovery. Our lasers offer the newer high-power Class IV therapy, which can provide significantly higher dosage levels and improved outcomes.

Treatments are painless, take about 10 minutes, and can often be started on the same day as your initial appointment. While some patients notice significant relief after the first 1-2 treatments, others may require up to 6 treatments to reach maximal benefit, as they do have an additive effect; the more energy that’s absorbed over time, the more you’ll notice the positive effects of the treatment.
